The 2010 Spring Semester has brought in 4 brand new Senate members, 7 members new last semester, and 6 veteran members.
The brand new members this semester are freshman Jacob Maki (Drumlin district), sophomores Megan Arney (Off-campus) and Elvisa Pasic (Off-campus), and senior Karen Drydyk (At-Large).
Last semester’s members are freshman Kristie Pedersen (Drumlin district), and sophomores Andrew Whaley (Drumlin), Hagen Kaczmarek (Esker), Jonathan Bomberg (Esker), Stephanie Abbott (Esker), and Frances Richardson (Off-campus), and junior Speaker Justin Schoenemann (Esker).
The six veteran members are sophomore Jeff Martin (Off-campus), junior Chad Neerhof (Off-campus), and seniors Stephen Jansen (Esker), Sam Gilbert (Off-campus), Ian Vaver (Off-campus), and Deputy Speaker Curtissa McMillian (Off-campus).
Included in Whitewater Student Government is the executive board. Those members consist of President Tim Scully (senior), Vice President Riley Mabeus (grad student), Clerk Anna Schwarz (junior), Student Affairs Director Cody Horlacher (senior), Legislative Affairs Director Scott Coenen (sophomore), Public Relations Director Karri Duerwachter (senior), University Services Director Luke Schalewski (senior), Academic Affairs Director Sarah Herlache (senior), and Information Technology Director Jay Rogers (junior).
There are still 8 open Off-campus Senate seats available so join us as our meetings every Monday at 7 p.m. in UC 259 and become a Senator!

The meeting on February 22nd was filled with reports and new legislation (S09-10:03 and S09-10:04). Directors Schalewski and Rogers gave a presentation on our new housing guide and elections information was brought forward including a public relations plan.
Please welcome Elvisa Pasic as the newest member of WSG! She will be serving as an off-campus senator.
Speakers
Legislative Liaison for UW-Whitewater: Ms. Kachel
Ms. Kachel spoke of her job as the Legislative Liaison for UW-Whitewater. When there are bills or the state budget concerning UW-Whitewater, she serves on committees at the state level.
She notified WSG of upcoming issues: The state senate seat on the 15th will be a hot seat up for grabs, Democrats hold 18-15 majority. Governor’s race is this year, very important. March 15th a legislative breakfast is being held for representatives of the state and national levels on campus.
The speaker at that breakfast will be Dr. Russ Kachian talking on the impact of UW-W on the region as far as jobs and the economy.

The Ad Hoc Committee decided to table the letter to the Senate and the Senate decided to table it to next week, March 1st.
External Committee Reports
Diversity Leadership: Senator Stephen Jansen
LGBT-
- UW-Whitewater was the last school in the UW System to host the Drag Show. It was successful and fun!
- The Board of Regents is looking to have a more inclusive admissions policy to be more gender neutral or at least less gender biased.
- March 1st there’s going to be a Gender Equity Report at 3 p.m. in UC 259.
- The Women’s Studies and LGBT conference is coming up March 17th, PB Poorman award announced, art show opening, lots of speakers.
Campus Climate Survey-
- Everything’s moving along as planned. Next step is to analyze all the results, the committee will review them, privacy concerns will be addressed, and then it will be sent back to the person taking care of the overall project. The Chancellor will see it first and then the committee will.
- May 4th is when the climate survey results will be presented at an event in the UC. A follow-up event in the fall is being planned for more data result presentations.

Ad Hoc Committee: President Scully
Please read the letter linked in this blog. This is the issue the Senate is discussing. Student Representatives letter
President Scully and Vice President Mabeus were the only president and VP in the UW System who didn’t sign this letter. They wanted to get the Senate’s take on it first.
The Senate voted to have President Scully and Vice President Mabeus sign the letter.
New Business
Housing Guide: Directors Luke Schalewski, Jay Rogers
There are 3 solutions to the housing guide: CyberSolutions, NoMoreDorms.com, and staying on our own server. Jay and Luke’s suggestions are to go with CyberSolutions because of the total customizable feature of it. This would be the best bet to get landlord satisfaction which brings in money to our budget and then we can pull in student attention.
Senate decided to bring in both CyberSolutions and NoMoreDorms.com into a meeting so the Senate can ask questions.

Standing Rules
2.4 Procedure for Passing Legislation
A. At the first meeting following the submission of any legislation, all clerical and content changes to any legislation will be solidified and voted upon by Senate. Voted clerical and content changes must pass by a 2/3 majority vote.
B. On the meeting one week following the introduction of the legislation, there will be a ten minute discussion on the legislation. This can be extended by a vote of the Senate. Following the discussion of the legislation, voting will take place.

February 15th’s meeting didn’t have a lot of new things going on. Senator Vaver talked about the Constitutional Revision Committee and their future endeavors. And Senators Jansen and Vaver gave their report on the Chancellor’s LGBT Taskforce committee. Officer reports took up the main part of the meeting. Quick one tonight!

Constitutional Revision Committee: Senator Ian Vaver
5 p.m. Monday, outside the office
Issues going through Con. Revis. Comm. need to be put through Speaker Schoenemann and Senator Vaver by next Monday’s meeting. Anything that comes up of anyone wanting to change something in the constitution would be on the Senate agenda pending Con. Revis.’s approval. Please get any changes in to Schoenemann and Vaver by Friday morning, Feb. 19!
Chancellor’s LGBT Taskforce: Sens. Stephen Jansen and Ian Vaver
Any ideas to enhance students’ experiences on our campus please let this committee know. Should SafeWalk come back? What happens with campus police escorts? What if they’re on a call? Is the student stranded? The transitional period for transgender students can be rough, this committee’s trying to make the entire campus more neutral on issues. (i.e. name changes, identifying M/F, Homecoming King/Queen)
Parliamentarian’s Tipz of the Week
To clarify when to stand or not, stand when it’s your speaking turn, when you’ve been recognized by the Speaker. You don’t need to stand when you’re seconding a motion. If you’re making a point of order or point of information, stand so the Speaker can recognize you. Happy President’s Day! And Happy Mardi Gras!

February 8th’s meeting started off with concerns from student Rachel Mattke regarding dining services, elections committee, and the electronic menu boards. Ms. Nicole Juan spoke about United Council. External committee reports were abundant.

- Angled parking is something the campus is looking into to make it easier to get in and out of parking spots.

- Ride share is being worked on. Talk to Luke to if you have any ideas!
- SEAL has over 13,000 people going to events. Their goal is 20,000 by the end of the semester.

Stand Out Officer Reports
President Tim Scully
Mr. Scully proposed a motion, and it was passed by Senate, to create an Ad-Hoc Committee.
The membership of the committee shall consist of:
- the WSG president
- 2 executive board members appointed by President
- 2 Senators appointed by the Speaker of the Senate.
The Ad-Hoc Committee shall review the following:
- any documentation relating to a potential merger
- recommendations made by the Student Reps Group
- recommendations and info from United Council
The committee shall report to the Senate on Feb. 21:
- decisions made by the Student Reps
- recommendations on a potential merger
- any further information requested by the Senate
- any Legislation regarding a merger if recommended.
RETREAT THURSDAY 5-10 p.m. in the Warhawk Involvement Center. Eat before you come. Feel free to bring treats for yourself or others. Talk to Sen. Tissa McMillian if you cannot make it!
Parliamentarian’s Tipz of the Week
During business we need to make sure there’s a motion on the floor before people speak. In the interest of that, make sure you have your questions answered before the meeting: “It’s ok to work on WSG stuff Tuesday through Sunday!” If we follow these rules of thumb we’ll be more productive and efficient. Thank you Sen. Whaley!

February 1st’s meeting started off with more returning senators being sworn into office. We were graced with the presence of speakers Dr. Stephen Summers and Ms. Chris Hollar. Internal and external committee reports came through and internal committees were chosen.
Speakers
Dining RFP- Dr. Stephen Summers
- Committee is reviewing the Request for Proposal for dining for next year.
- RFP went out Nov. 24, vendor meeting Dec. 17 (5 companies came), proposals were turned in Jan. 21 [# of proposals and names of vendors cannot be released as of yet]
- Evaluations are due by next Monday, Feb. 8 from committee members
- UW-W’s evaluations are due to Madison by Feb. 18
- April 18 is when intent to award goes to preferred vendor
- New contract starts June 1 (more practice on summer campers instead of UW-W students)
- FYI low food costs are not going to continue! But no predictions are possible now.
Some tentative changes in the current contract:
- Dropped the any 7 meal plan but added the any 24 meal plan
- 4th meal period added during the day (1 breakfast, 2 lunch, 2 dinner, and/or late night)
- Free soda refills!!
- 2nd executive chef added for the Residence Dining Program
- Continuing trayless program
- Reusable clam shell program
- Continuing separation program
- Low emission vehicles
- One certified green restaurant
- Requiring national or regional brand (i.e. T. Bell, B. King)
- Each restaurant 40% low-, 40% mid-, and 20% high end cost, 15% off residence dining
- Hot breakfast program added back at Esker Hall
- Continuous service in restaurants but not full meals
- Four different fresh fruits in rotation/days
- Drumlin Hall MAY go back to an All You Can Eat facility like Esker
- 2 meals with bigger portions during lunch AND dinner
- Convenience store prices will be within a certain lower margin
- Catering wavers increased to try to cover events and exclude smaller groups (making for student groups to use off-campus venues
- Student managers coming a week early for training
Cinco de Mayo Festival- Ms. Chris Hollar
- Volunteers requested to run activities at the Cinco de Mayo event
- 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4th, on Center Street
- Off-campus because they wanted more authentic food from Karina’s and similar restaurants
- Hoping to get a shuttle between campus and downtown every half hour

New Business
Student Reps Request
- Request wants to merge United Council with the Student Representatives group.
- They want to charge $3 per student in the coming years.
- The Senate went into a discussion about the request and decided to table the request for two weeks.

Senator Andrew Whaley gives us a little insight to General Henry Robert’s rules of Parli Pro. What Robert says on committees: The most important part is that the substance of committee reports should be in writing. Fill out the committee report sheets available in the office. Only fill out sheet as necessary; all information is not necessary. Short enough for the minutes!
